This Is The Place To “Git’R Done”

Cabin Scoop:

Brown PellicanThe floating cabin is located in Bray Cove part of the Mesquite Bay system and is approximately 15 miles Northeast of Goose Island State Park in Rockport, Texas. THE CABIN IS ONLY ACCESSIBILE BY BOAT. The floating cabin is approximately 54’ long and 16’ wide.  A total remodel and updating of the cabin has just been completed as of July 2010.  It is permanently tethered to a fixed mooring.  The cabin rotates in a circle around the mooring depending on wind direction.  The water depth around the cabin varies on tide conditions, but is normally 2 to 3 feet in depth (about waist deep).   Bray Cove provides protected conditions, even in severe storms.  The cabin is very stable in all weather conditions.  FYI: The cabin has survived two near direct hit hurricanes in the last 10 years with little damage.  Guests feel very little movement in any direction at any time. The cabin does not rock in a “back and forth” or an “up and down” motion until winds reach above 50 mph due to the protected location.  During severe storms which can generate 70 mph winds the cabin remains very stable.

The facility is located in the Aransas Wildlife Refuge area which is the home of the endangered Whooping Cranes (Winter Only), alligators, large deer, assorted birds, fish, turkey, and hogs.  On most nights while sitting in the screen patio area or on the deck coyotes can be heard in close proximity and birds calling. You only experience this level of “remoteness” while comfortable in a few places.

Use our audio player to your right to listen to the sounds of Whooping Cranes in Unison as well as Adult and Baby Whooping Cranes.

On clear evenings the planets and stars pop from the sky.  On a “full moon” the view is nothing less than an extravaganza of nature.  Day and night it is common to see porpoises young and old playing and feeding within a few feet of the cabin.

Below are renderings and pics of the exterior and floor plan of the cabin.

The Cabin is clean, spacious and comfortable and provides a great platform for fishing, hunting, birding and relaxation.   Just a few feet off the deck guests will find excellent wade fishing (year around), duck hunting (in season), and kayaking in the numerous surrounding clear shallow lakes.

Little Blue HeronIn the evenings the fishing lights often provide excellent fishing off the open deck area.  The cabin is a great place to gather friends and family for cold or hot beverages while preparing a kitchen meal or using the Bar B Que pit.  The word “Relaxing” was created to describe this floating cabin facility.  “Remote” is another feature the cabin offers, during the evening hours it is very uncommon to see or hear other humans or boats.

During winter months it is common to see several adult pairs and young Whooping cranes within a few hundred yards of the cabin or close proximity to the cabin.  The opportunity to photograph wildlife and birds is unsurpassed.  Keep your camera handy it will get used.

Re-circulating ToiletThe cabin is equipped with a kitchen stocked with pots/pans/utensils including a propane stove and small oven.  A Coast Guard Approved  electric circulating toilet and enclosed shower facility on the deck provides for your convenience.

Because of the remote location it is necessary to conserve fresh water as much as possible.  There is normally a minimum of 40 gallons of fresh water on board for guest use.   The following picture shows the location of the cabin and a couple of suggested routes to reach it from Goose Island State Park.  If you are interested in previewing the area use the free version of Google Earth. The cabin is powered by both a generator and batteries for operation of lighting and air conditioning in the main sleeping area.  Lighting can either be run from a silent 12 volt power source or the generator can be started to provide for air conditioning and fishing lights.

The main cabin will sleep 8 adults with 2 double bunks, 2 Full Futons and 2 comfortable padded cots.  The screened porch provides an additional comfortable sleeping area in the fall and spring, the porch is approximately 12’x16’ and will accommodate several sleeping cots.

To provide our customers with “peace of mind” guests are provided emergency boat towing or transportation in case of mechanical difficulties with their boats.  We won’t leave you stranded.

Based on a party of 8 adults, a 48 hour (2 day weekend) cabin stay is $61.88 per person for two great nights and days of fishing, hunting, birding or just relaxing, so gather your friends, buddies and family to share expenses on a unique and affordable adventure.  The facility can accommodate more than 8 persons, and further reduce per person costs.  Parties exceeding 8 persons are not charged for additional people.

Whether you want to fish, duck hunt, or just relax, this is the place to “git’r done”.
